1200 CALORIES             “A long term calorie deficit can mess with your blood sugar levels, reduce bone mass, cause weakness, fatigue, cold intolerance, irregular menstrual periods, dizziness, constipation and swelling of the hands and feet. If a woman decides to get thin by maintaining a steep calorie deficit (1,200 calories is very steep) and pairs it with long sessions of steady-state cardio, it can result in thyroid issues. “Too little T3 (hypothyroidism), and the body accumulates body fat with ease, almost regardless of physical activity level. Women inadvertently put themselves into a hypothyroid condition when they perform so much steady-state cardio.”—Sophia Herbst for The Huffington Post

BECOMING A LADY BEAST                 First and foremost: I PERSONALLY PROMISE YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET BULKY. DO NOT LISTEN TO IDIOTS WHO TELL YOU YOU ARE GOING TO GET BULKY. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.”—Sophia Herbst, Sophieologie

Wow. I wish I had read that first article 20 years ago. That was me, until I walked through the door of our box last year. I have fought eating disorders most of my life. And I screed up my thyroid and I am paying for it now. And it literally crept up on me out of nowhere. About 2.5 years ago I was training for a marathon and got a stress fracture. One month later all I wanted to do was sleep, my hair was falling out and in one month, yep just one, while hardly rating at all because I had no appetite, I gained 25 pounds! Went to the dr. I developed a hypothyroid. I did nothing about it fora year or so. The I joined here. I am not taking the medicine, I don’t want to be on it forever. I haven’t lost much weight but have gained a lot if muscle strength and even some confidence. And a boat load of knowledge and friends. I weighed 173 a year ago and about the same now (I no longer own a scale). But I know I definitely don’t look the same.and I owe a big thank you to my Crossfit family for all they have helped me accomplish and the knowledge and support they have given me.
